It’s Oscar Wilde‘s birthday today. He was born in Dublin in 1854. I only know this because I get daily emails from The Writer’s Almanac– and you can too–click here. Every day I get a poem in my email, plus trivia and tidbits about writers born on that day. Here’s a great quote from him. [...]

I love vintage books. I’m starting to collect vintage pulp books– mostly those that have been made into movies, like these: The Bad Seed, Revolt (or Day of) The Triffids, and The Left Hand of God (that’s Humphrey Bogart on the cover–he was in the film version). I believe I got all of these from [...]
Happy Birthday Gore Vidal
October 3, 2008
The Writer’s Almanac– hosted by Garrison Keillor 7pm weeknights on NPR (yes, i’ve become one of those people), states that it’s Gore Vidal’s 83rd birthday today. (born in 1925). He (Gore) said, “Style is knowing who you are, what to say, and not giving a damn.” You go, Gore!

What a great week. I’m loving the two classes i’m teaching: Advanced Composition and Creative Nonfiction (a workshop). In the comp class I focus on Media; we talk about politics, pop culture, movies/TV/music. This week we watched the documentary “The Bronze Screen: 100 Years of the Latino Image in Hollywood” and discussed stereotypes in media. [...]

Dag! No time to really blog today– and I wanted to write about my experience yesterday as a special guest in my colleague, Sydney Brown’s Intro to Creative Writing class. I read a short-short creative nonfiction piece that I had published a couple of years ago and then answered questions from the class about it. [...]
Moleskin
September 1, 2008
I’m enjoying my moleskin diary. I’ve decided to title this diary ’39′ in honor of this being my 39th year. I want to see at the end of April (my birthday) what i’ve written in this year. Last Monday, the 25th, was the first day teaching my Creative Nonfiction class. It was a great first [...]

But if anyone else has some good ideas for what to do with Fresh Grown Cayenne Peppers please let me know. Here [...]
Camping it Up: Lazy Bear 2008
August 7, 2008
Lazy Bear was a blast. 5 nights in Guerneville, a small town outside of San Francisco, along the Russian River. 5 nights with 3,000 men in tents. Pool parties. Swimming in the River. Drinking beer. Cooking (once or twice) at our little stove. Seeing Eduardo camp. Dancing to good and bad music. Meeting many new, [...]
See You At Lazy Bear 2008
July 29, 2008
Hi all, No blogging from me for the next five-six days. I’m going camping in the woods of Guerneville for the annual Lazy Bear weekend, with Ted, Eduardo (yes, we are taking Eduardo Camping–scary, eh?), the Jasons, Charlar, and Aaron from NYC. I promise pics when I get back. Have a fun, safe, happy weekend.
