Photobooth 2: Electric Boogaloo

June 5, 2008

I think I just like putting the words “Electric Boogaloo” after anything that has a 2.
So, tonight is the 2nd Photobooth reading. You might remember the first.
Or maybe you were there? In any case, tonight will be more of the same: a bunch of people (well, 5 to be exact) responding through readings to various [...]

Dashboard Writing

May 21, 2008

I’m not even going to write about American Idol (though i’m happy to say that the one person I voted for consistently, David Cook–who happens to look like my younger brother, only with a bigger head than my younger brother–won. Yay!).
David Cook and My brother, Justin
Separated at birth?
Here’s a pic of me and Justin [...]

That’s SO Gay!

April 22, 2008

Last night, at the community college where I teach Ted and I gave a presentation titled That’s So Gay! for our annual Literary Arts Festival. It was the kickoff event, a reading/interrogation by several of the professors of the school. Our theme for the Lit. Arts Festival this year is The Writer As Activist and [...]

The New Name of My Memoir is: The Cat From Outer Space

March 25, 2008

So I gave my Creative Writing class some more poetry prompts (for the 2nd leg of the poetry section) today. One of the prompts is a “list poem.”
I’m really a big fan of lists in writing–no matter the genre– the cataloging of things– Aaron Hamburger uses lists in creative ways in his book Faith For [...]

Write. Finish. Edit. Repeat. (rinse?)

March 23, 2008

My Canadian pal, Lola, turned me on to this cool weblog by writer JA Konrath– called
A Newbie’s Guide To Publishing. He has some pretty sage advice and words of wisdom, for example:
There’s a word for a writer who never gives up… published
and
Write when you can. Finish what your start. Edit what you finish. Submit what [...]

Wenis

March 22, 2008

Ok, I should be writing… and I swear, i’m on my way out the door to write, but
I was looking through Etsy.com– the website for cool crafters, DIY buying and selling and came across this awesome item:
a Wenis Felt Badge! from the seller: Mooseandbear . Check out their other items, and their [...]

You like me! You really like me!*

March 21, 2008

*contrary to popular belief, this is not what Sally Field said when she won the Academy Award in 1985 (her second) for “Places in the Heart.” She actually said: “…I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!”
In any case, somebody out there likes me. Or, likes my writing project. [...]

No, that’s not a song from the musical “Rent.”
That’s how many words I wrote today! On my Spring Break! (who needs Daytona Beach, eh?)
I wrote 12 pages.
12
That’s probably more writing than i’ve done in the last month.
I am, as Eduardo puts it: En Fuego. (which I think means on fire?)
It was such a good [...]

American Photobooth

March 16, 2008

So, yes, the Photobooth reading on Thursday night was a smash. The Whistlestop was packed. Friends, family–my sister!, and students came out to see us. A real photobooth (from photoboof.com) was set up in a corner of the room and on a big screen in front of the audience hundreds of photobooth strips flashed by. [...]

No V-Shot, sorry.

March 14, 2008

The Photobooth Reading was awesome. Such a blast. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and special thanks to those who
sent in photostrips (they all flashed on the screen before and after the reading) . I’ll blog more about it later, but here’s a photostrip of me and Ted and our friend Jen from last night.
Confidential: [...]
