I want to be a bus driver

October 4, 2008

I love vintage books. I’m starting to collect vintage pulp books– mostly those that have been made into movies, like these:

The Bad Seed, Revolt (or Day of) The Triffids, and The Left Hand of God (that’s Humphrey Bogart on the cover–he was in the film version). I believe I got all of these from Ebay.

But occasionally I like to get regular vintage books with strange or odd titles and zany covers, like these:

Many of these I got for 25 cents each at the local library.

I also occasionally find cool old books on Etsy– a killer art, craft and vintage website– like this great one :

I Want To Be A Bus Driver! Was there ever a more sweet statement made?

From the seller Koyani (who specializes in items that are guaranteed to be 20 years old or older). Koyani’s stuff is amazing. So much fun.

So what am I going to do with all of these books? (i’m sure Ted asks that question every time a package from Ebay or Etsy arrives for me).

I saw a vendor at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn who took old books and turned them into spiral blank books. He takes the spine off and uses the covers for the blank book…and intermittently inserts white paper in the pages of the book, then spiral binds them. His website is here: http://www.bookjournals.com/

Just a possible idea, unless you want to keep the integrity of the book by not taking it apart. :)
