Roosterfish

F. Scott Fitzgerald, in a letter dated July 29, 1940 once said about Hollywood:

Isn’t Hollywood a dump—in the human sense of the word. A hideous town, pointed up by the insulting gardens of its rich, full of the human spirit at a new low of debasement. (from notablequotes.com)

cranky much?

Well, I don’t think Hollywood’s a dump. In fact, as many of you know i’m pretty obsessed with anything Hollywood. We were in LA this past Saturday and Sunday,  mostly Culver City and Venice Beach, seeing Ted’s college friend, Michael, who wrote the music and lyrics for a new show at the Kirk Douglas Theater–The Civilians’ This Beautiful City. The show is a documentary/musical theater about the Evangelical movement, notably in Colorado and regarding Ted Haggard. It’s pretty great stuff.

Though everyone in LA looks like a potential celebrity to me, we didn’t see the caliber of stars like we did last time we were in LA seeing one of Michael’s shows, when we saw Ben McKenzie from The OC, and sat next to Tony Plana (Ugly Betty’s father).

Well, we did see a celebrity– my friend Peter, an actor and all-around fun guy (i’ve known him almost 20 years!). He took us to this cool bar in Venice Beach called Roosterfish. It looked like an old barn painted turquoise and had good music and a nice vibe to it. I took a picture of it with my cell phone.

Last night in my CNF class we began our discussion of Memoir. We talked about Smith Magazine’s 6 Word Memoirs (if you haven’t seen them– check out their website and send one in of your own).

I asked them to write theirs and share them and they were hilarious, bold, moving, zany.

And, speaking of Hollywood and LA I wrote my own six word memoir in my moleskin:

Meant to be a child star.
