Honey Boy
March 30, 2008
Last weekend I made two new postcards that I then sent out to my postcard swap partners (via .post due. and swap-bot).
Here are the two cards that went out to Colorado and Seattle.
These are from my new Fruit Series. I get the pictures of fruit from those inserts that come in the mail– from grocery and drug stores like Ralphs and Rite-Aid.
As part of the swap, of course, I get postcards from two people whom I don’t know. It’s kind of fun getting from (and giving to) strangers like this.
So far (with this new swap) i’ve only gotten one postcard, but it was a cool one (love the creepy snake in the jar and the highlighted words), from St. Louis, MO. Thanks again Jill!
Speaking of post cards, my friend (and fabulous writer) Jess recently gave me a slew of amazing cards that had belonged to her grandmother. Some date back to 1909!
Like this one:
what I also love about these old postcards is the address (or lack of one). Check it out! Back in the day you could simply write Joe Smith, La Jolla CA, and it would get to him.
This postcard has no house/apartment number, just the name and then the city and state (it even got the city wrong; someone crossed out Naples and wrote in Oceano). Too funny.
Here are more from Jess.
I call this one Valentine Boys (I don’t know if they’re both boys, it’s kind of Victorian so it could go either way…)
Some of the cards are so amazing I want to leave them exactly as they are, like these bird postcards (with real feathers).
and this one from1943:
Love the bear.
