Postcard Mania Sweeps San Diego and NYC!!

October 13, 2007

Went out today for a few hours to work on my latest chapter (chapter 3).

It was slow going but i’m glad I did it, and even when I wasn’t typing on my computer I wrote notes in my notebook.

After writing, Ted and I saw Michael Clayton, the new George Clooney movie, which was good, but confusing and a bit vague, and pretty much the male version of Erin Brockovich. But still Clooney is as earnest and handsome as ever. Oh, and Tilda Swinton rocks as usual.

When I got home today there were TWO postcards waiting for me in the mailbox! They were from Lee (in New York) and Shin (here in San Diego), the two people I mentioned in my previous blog.

The postcards they sent are very cool. Here’s Shin’s:

And Lee’s (with the nurse).

not to be outdone, I made two of my own Friday night.

I haven’t varnished either of them– and I may not. Though I did get some excellent advice on varnishes/glosses from both Neda (from Papiers Colles) and Art Junk Girl.

Check out their blogs– talk about creative (and prolific).

So you might notice the Veronica Lake postcard has some wrinkles in it! Drat!! Sorry about that Veronica! I put glue on the card first, then put the image down– which was a big mistake– I couldn’t smooth out the wrinkles for some reason. Ah well, i’m just trying these things out. Trial and error, as they say. Maybe I can find some other things to do with/on the card to mask that. In any case, I won’t be sending these ‘experiments’ to Lee or Shin.

Thanks for posting the Gold Lady! I’m glad you get her. She is DIVA.

Lee’s is cool. I like the juxtaposition of the nurse and the gun along with the text.

I like your leisure suit collage. The text “What if I don’t fit the pattern” ties it together.

Exacto knives are always good things for doing collages. You can cut shapes very nicely with it. However, be very careful! The Exacto knife is the precision cousin of the boxcutter and is a very sharp object.

maybe you could get a home botox kit and hook veronica’s forehead wrinkles up? ;)

Ohhhh…love, “what if it don’t fit the pattern x 3″! …oh, and veronica..oh, magazines just can’t handle the water in glue. I would suggest sticking with a UHU glue stick for those special clippings. Most of those thin vintage clippings will ripple.
Oh, you got some great postcard trades!
