Quick! Check it out before I shellac/ruin it!

October 6, 2007

Here’s my latest postcard– made last night after dinner (Ted made the most incredible Chicken Tikka Masala). While watching Ugly Betty and drinking two dirty martinis I suddenly felt creative and pulled out my clippings/books/glue/and paper cutter.
I haven’t glossed/varnished it yet (read: I haven’t ruined it yet), so it looks pretty good. More on my quest of being a better collage-er later (i’ve been hearing from some lovely craft blogger/collage-ers). Today we’re frantically cleaning the house for our weekend guest– the wonderful Curtis from NYC.

Anyway, here is the card:

postcardcertain.jpg I’ve decided to put it full-size on the blog so you can really see it. I call it ‘certainty’ and most of the text is from this cool deign book from the 1970s that i’ll post about another time.

Also, found this postcard sent to me by my friend, writer James Thomas Stevens a few years ago. I’ve always loved it. Maybe I can find something crafty to do with it?

twomenpostcard.jpg <–Very sweet, no? it says on the back: Zouaves, Algeria, c. 1900. Photograph by Jouves Freres, Tlemcen.

I signed up for the post card swap a few days ago. Then I got into a creative fit and made a few! I did a few collages, a drawing, and one crude calligraphic piece. I couldn’t stop! It was a lot of fun! I am the happiest when I’m doing art.

I’m done for now, but I’m waiting for that random address. I also look forward to seeing what I get in the mail. Thanks for mentioning “Post Due” on your blog! Best tip I’ve gotten in a while.

I’ll post a few soon on my blog, but they are available on my Flickr page.

    hey shin!
very cool. you’re the second person i’ve gotten to join.
they should hopefully be giving us our swap partner soon.
in the meantime, we’ll just keep making postcards.
