see world?
October 6, 2004
didn’t see much of the world today,
as i was holed up in my apartment, in my
bedroom, at my computer, to be very exact,
finishing up an article for the
wonderful Maisonneuve magazine that
i have been working on for months!!
i set it aside. not sure why i did that. but i did.
and then the editor emailed and asked how it was coming along,
and… that they would love to take a look at it. yikes!
i’m such a nut. tinkering with things (like my collection) for forever.
all it took was a gentle nudge (thanks matthew!) to get me going.
finally got off my fat, tired, lazy ass and did some writing!!
the article is about my experience working at Sea World in the late 1980s
(when I was around 5 years old– child labor laws were non-existent in San Diego).
ok, just kidding. it was after i had graduated from high school.
i’m not going to go into the specifics of my experience, or of my
article. in the hopes that it will get accepted (i don’t want to jinx myself!).
cross your fingers for me, though. i hope they like it and still want it.
it was kind of nice, being somewhat of a hermit today (was it a nice day?).
gosh, i wish i could just get a way and work on my book (or my next one, anyway)
for several weeks. just take a leave from my job, and really focus all my energy on
my writing– like i did today.
my eyes are burning from sitting at the computer, but it’s a good burn. it felt good.
ps– had a great night Tuesday, at Cedar Bar, meeting with a group of
writers. saw the lovely felicia there and also met nic kelman and thorn hillsbery.
it was nice, very low key, just a bunch of writers chatting each other up, getting to know
people. looks like the gay mafia has infiltrated now, though– as i came with
vestal and michael, and aaron came later!
